These are typically floral flavored, and is often served best without any type of sweetener. This is because of the delicate flavor that it possesses, and is often harvested by extracting the leaves and buds. The white fuzz that can be seen permeating from the leaves of the plant are representative of why it is called white tea throughout the world. Where Does It Come From?

Unlike many of the more popular forms of tea that come from India, this actually originates from the Fujian Province of China. Though it is distinct from different types of tea including green, black, and oolong, it does come from the camellia sinensis plant. When harvested, the leaves and buds are dried right after the harvest. The harvest season typically extends into early April. The processing of the leaves can occur through natural sunlight, drying chambers, and heating vents that can accelerate the process.

Does This Have Health Benefits?

This tea has been shown to provide many medicinal qualities including the ability to fight bacterial and viral infections. Examples of this would be taking the tea while you are experiencing pneumonia or streptococcus infections, each of which can be diminished by consuming this beverage. In some studies, it has been shown to prevent, or at least reduce the probability of developing, colon cancer if you happen to have this genetically from your family. By drinking this regularly, you are contributing to a much longer potential life by doing nothing more than consuming this beverage.

How Is It Served?

This beverage, like most forms of tea that are produced, is best served fresh and hot. Due to its consistency, additives such as milk or sweeteners should not be added as it will diminish its overall flavor. It is highly recommended, to benefit from the tea to its maximum potential, of not pouring boiling water onto the leaves. Reaching a temperature of no more than 190°F is the ideal temperature by which to process this tea.
